Tennyson through the years

Our Story: Three Generations of Innovation and Growth

Tennyson Printery Pty Ltd began humbly in 1961, operating from a backyard shed in Tennyson. Founded as a partnership between Doreen Simpson and Harold Meyers, the company soon became a family affair. When Harold stepped down, Doreen’s husband, Ranald ‘Ran’ Simpson, took his place, managing production while juggling two other jobs. Meanwhile, Doreen oversaw the company’s administration and finances, ensuring smooth operations as the business grew. From an early age, the Simpson children were involved in the day-to-day activities, setting the foundation for their future leadership roles.

By 1965, Tennyson Printery had outgrown its original location and moved to a larger site in Coopers Plains. With continued growth and innovation, the company relocated again in 1970 to Acacia Ridge, where it expanded beyond printing into new services like Acro Vinyl Arts, ArtXtra, The Screenery, Tuff Tabs, and The Bindery.

As demand for space increased, the decision was made in 1986 to sell the Acacia Ridge property to Palmer Tube Mills (now Smorgon Steel) and move to a new, more spacious site at Magnesium Drive in Crestmead. In 1987, Tennyson Group settled into its new home in what was then an emerging industrial area, watching the precinct flourish around it.

With the retirement of Ran and Doreen on the horizon, their son Greg Simpson took over, guiding the company through a period of continued success. Later, leadership passed to Mitchell Simpson and his wife Karen, who have spearheaded the company’s expansion into new markets, solidifying Tennyson Group’s reputation as a leader in print and graphic communications.

Today, the third generation of the Simpson family—Chloe, Ali, and Lachlan—are actively involved in the business, ensuring the Tennyson Group legacy continues to thrive. With over six decades of experience, the company remains committed to innovation, consistently upgrading its equipment and services to meet the evolving needs of its loyal customers.
